VRDC 2017 Talk on GDC Vault (not behind paywall) on some of my team’s research projects.

Some of the proof of concept work (some of which went on to become products included:

  • Building an HMD to split the VR pipeline and do late-stage projection (and other HMD-prep) in the HMD itself

  • Adapting the same pipeline to do wireless VR using a smartphone as the PC HMD

  • Haptic devices

  • A collaboration we did with Mixcast to get Intel optimized codec support as well as support for the Realsense 3D camera.

  • An incomplete proof-of-concept around drone-mounted cameras for green-screening.

Implications for ISVs were around questioning assumptions for UX requirements, the importance of green-screen MR for marketing their applications and expanding their reach, and lastly that developers are going to have to start thinking about helping mediate multiple realities on behalf of their users.
